EDGE conversations

EDGE conversations are a quarterly coaching framework intended to engage, develop, grow, and empower employees. This format helps prioritize and focus activities on what is most important each quarter while fostering continued communication between employee and manager. The EDGE framework redefines the annual performance evaluation process.

How EDGE Conversations Work:

Each quarter (minimum 2), employees meet with their manager for a 30-minute conversation focused on celebrating previous accomplishments and identifying priorities, learning objectives and partnerships.

EDGE conversations in leu of the typical annual performance review process common in other areas. Rather than an annual evaluation that reviews previous performance, EDGE conversations are intended to be future-focused, developmental conversations.

Employee notes and manager feedback are submitted in the EDGE Conversations portal (requires MyASU pre-login).

Employees and their managers should complete an EDGE Conversation and submit their notes in the EDGE Conversation portal by the last day of each quarter.

Quarter 1: July 1 – Sept. 30
Quarter 2: Oct. 1 – Dec. 31
Quarter 3: Jan. 1 – March 31
Quarter 4: April 1 – June 30

New employees need to complete an EDGE Conversation with their manager as part of their 90-day on-boarding plan. New employees and their managers should meet the first quarter an employee is in a department to learn the EDGE Conversations model. Managers will need to help new employees identify their goals and objectives for the quarter and moving forward. On-boarding tasks will most likely be the first quarter objectives for a new employee but it is important for employees and managers to learn how to use the EDGE Conversations tool as a framework for growth and development together.

SUN Awards

The SUN Award is an easy way to give specific, immediate recognition to one of your ASU co-workers. It is a thoughtful, positive way to honor an employee for supporting university goals. You can submit a SUN Award to any faculty, staff or student worker who demonstrates individual excellence. A copy of the award can also be sent to the employee’s supervisor, manager or director.

How to give a SUN Award:
Fill out an online form and personalize it with a short explanation that describes why you are sending the SUN Award. When you submit the online form, you and the recipient will be notified via email. Give someone an award today. If the award link does not work, please make sure you are connected to ASU's VPN client and try again.

The SUN Award is an employee-based program; only active employees, including student workers, can send and receive SUN Awards.
